US Auto Insurance

We Americans of a ripe old age may remember the days when Dinah Shore urged us in song to “see the USA in your Chevrolet.” Many of us did just that.

And lots of us are still doing that today. Only now lots of us are setting out in our Winnebagos and leaving the Chevys at home.

Doesn’t really matter, though, what type of motorized vehicle we’re traveling in or to which part of the country, US auto insurance coverage is required to make that journey legal.

For vehicles registered in any part of the US auto insurance is required, in one form of another. The only exception seems to be New Hampshire but, under certain circumstances, even New Hampshirites must carry auto insurance to comply with the law.

You may be going just one state over or planning to drive until you’ve seen them all. Either way, the insurance coverage that is required in your state is enough coverage to allow you to travel legally in all the other states.

US auto insurance coverage requirements pertain only to the state in which your particular vehicle is registered. This is probably the same state that issues your driver’s license.

Some states have different requirements for insuring motorcycles but, as a rule, for all motorized vehicles operating on public roadways in the US auto insurance is a must.

Before leaving home for a cross-country tour, make sure your insurance is up to date and your insurance documentation kept in a handy spot in your vehicle. It doesn’t matter where you go, you might be asked to provide proof of insurance and you don’t want to delay your journey or spoil your adventure by not having this valuable document nearby.

Doesn’t really matter how we see the USA, whether it’s in a Chevrolet, Ford, Mazda, Jaguar, or a VW. Or a Winnebago. It just needs to be insured.
